Merging contemporary workplace principles into a character-filled historic building to create an open, collaborative and creative workplace.

Located in the historic Goods Shed South, this workplace brings together the Penguin Group and Pearson Australia into a truly collaborative and creative work space. The redevelopment of the Goods Shed South follows from the fit-out designed by BVN Donovan Hill to the Goods Shed North, which was completed in 2009. The redevelopment and integrated workplace fit-out project forms part of the $1 billion 735 Collins Street precinct development by Walker Corporation.

The Pearson Australia workplace merges contemporary workplace principles into a character-filled, heritage-listed building, transforming the interior into a light-filled, open office environment incorporating state-of-the-art technology.

Designed to promote interaction amongst staff and between business groups, the workplace provides a creative hub for the publishing house’s development of e-books, electronic education tools and online education content. The workplace also houses over four kilometers of published print works within bookcases that flank ‘collaboration courtyards.’ As a dynamic, multi-media business, the workplace includes large operable presentation rooms, in-house photographic and recording studio, as well as work points for both permanent staff and a mobile workforce.

In accordance with Pearson’s ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, the historic building upgrade is designed to achieve a 5 star Green Star rating.
